If you’ve started playing Dune: Awakening and are eager to hop in a vehicle as soon as possible, you’ll have to wait a bit if you follow the progression missions exactly. However, there is a trick to unlocking and crafting a Sandbike early on, which is the first vehicle available in the game, and it will make traveling around for various missions much easier. If you’re experienced in the survival genre, I highly recommend you take this route. But if this is your first time playing an open-world survival game, you’re better off following the main progression.
Either way, after creating your custom character and before starting any of the introductory tutorials in Dune: Awakening, you’ll be prompted whether you want to unlock the Research menu from the beginning of the game as opposed to having it locked behind progression. To get the Sandbike as early as possible, you’ll want to select the Unlocked (Advanced) option to have access to the Sandbike schematics automatically. From here, it’s a matter of knowing where to look on your starting map and building a minimally viable base near Imperial Testing Station 02 as soon as you can.

How To Unlock The Sandbike Schematics In Dune: Awakening
With Advanced Research Available, The Sandbike Schematics Are Automatically Available
If you want to ride a Sandbike, as with any weapon or other item, you need to know what’s required to build it first, and that starts with the basic Sandbike schematics. If you chose to unlock the “Advanced” Research option, you’ll have access to the Sandbike schematics automatically when you start the game, but they’ll cost you a couple of Research points. You can wait to research these until after you’ve built your base and a Fabricator, as you can use the Research points along the way for other purposes.
Once you’re set up with a Fabricator and Ore Refinery, you can research the Sandbike schematics to see the parts needed to craft one. The main parts you need to find are all located inside Imperial Testing Station 02, so if you set your first base up close to the facility, you’re in good shape. Going into the Testing Station essentially bypasses the main progression missions that will eventually take you there anyway, but you will be able to grab all the main quest items while you’re there, even if you haven’t accepted the missions yet.
To build the Sandbike, you need to get the requisite parts inside Imperial Testing Station 02. This area is found near the Planetologist Derek Chinara’s camp (see above map location). This will be northwest of the starting crash site, and shouldn’t be too difficult to track down, especially if you played during the Beta earlier this year.

Go To Imperial Testing Station 02 For Sandbike Materials
Once you’ve located Imperial Testing Station 02 and built your base with the Fabricator, etc., you’ll need to go into the station and clear it out. If you collect everything inside the facility, you’ll walk out with all of the main parts needed to build a Sandbike, aside from the basic resources such as Copper Ore that you’ll need to collect as well. You will also need to create a Welding Torch at your Fabricator, which is used to assemble the Sandbike components.

Once you’ve collected the Advanced Servoks and Particle Capacitors from Imperial Testing Station 02 and refined the necessary number of Copper Ingots, you can then use the Fabricator to create each part. After they’re finished, collect them and use the Welding Torch to assemble your first Sandbike. Now you can start exploring Arrakis in style and save yourself a ton of time on the various main progression missions in Dune: Awakening.
