You can now play one of Hideo Kojima’s favorite games on Xbox Game Pass without any additional fees. The legendary game designer, best known for the Metal Gear and Death Stranding franchises, has just seen the release of Death Stranding 2. The title was met with universal praise from critics and players alike, showing that Kojima is still an innovator.
Even though he is best known for some industry-changing titles, he has also worked on some smaller titles that are just as good. An example of this is Boktai: The Sun Is In Your Hand, arguably one of Kojima’s most creative games ever. His appreciation for smaller titles is constant, as he’s praised an indie game, Inside, as one of his favorites.
Inside Is Free On Xbox Game Pass
The Indie Horror Game Can Be Played On PC & Consoles
If you want to understand why Kojima loves Inside, you’ll be delighted to know that you can play it for free via Xbox Game Pass. The indie title developed by Playdead, the same creators as Limbo, is available for both consoles and PC via the subscription service. If you haven’t upgraded to an Xbox Series X/S console, know that it can be played on Xbox One, too.
Inside was added to the Game Pass catalog in 2022. There haven’t been any signs showing that it may leave. However, if you consider how the catalog rotates every month, it’s best to play it now and ensure you don’t miss out if it leaves.

The Game Developer Loves Horror

In an interview with Eurogamer in 2019, Kojima declared that Inside was one of his favorites of the past five years. This should come as no surprise if you consider the developer’s fondness for new takes on the horror genre.
The director of the legendary P.T. demo has always appreciated horror as a theme – so much so that Kojima and Jordan Peele are working on a horror game called OD. It’s uncertain exactly what it will portray, but if Inside had that much of an impact on Kojima, it might influence his work, even if slightly.
Inside isn’t beloved only by Kojima. The title has a 93 Metascore and an 8.3 user score on Metacritic, highlighting its universal acclaim. Furthermore, the indie horror game received several accolades, including several nominations for awards, some of which it won, like the Best Independent Game at TGA 2016.
The game also won the Best Art Direction award at the event.
If you’re looking for a creative puzzle-platform game that toys around with the very concept of horror, Inside is the game for you. Kojima’s appreciation for the game means a lot, as it also reflects its quality, so I urge you to play it for free on Xbox Game Pass.
